The Starfish King is the king of the Starfish Kingdom and the father of Ester.

He is a very funny and humorous person who loves making fun of everything and making others laugh. He loves making fun of himself so much that not even his wife, the Starfish Queen, can handle his jokes sometimes. The Starfish King loves children and whenever Ester takes her friends home, he likes to play with them.

He is quite different from the other kings, who are more serious and stern.

Character highlights[]

In The Party, the Starfish King is trying to find his Star Pen which he uses to sign important documents and has been in his family for twenty generations. He spots Ester burying the broken pen outside the palace and confronts her about it the next morning, punishing her by not allowing her to attend the class party she has been planning. Polvina and Tubarina manage to find a pen restorer in the Crab Kingdom and in return, the Starfish King allows them to hold the class party at the Starfish Palace as long as Ester stays in her room.

In The Argument, the Starfish King and Shark King have a falling out over an argument about each other’s “ridiculous” ideas, which leads to their children, Ester and Tubarina, falling out as well as they are barred from seeing each other and compelled to side with their fathers over an issue they had little to no knowledge about. When Polvina manages to get Ester and Tubarina to stop arguing, they get their fathers to explain what their argument was about. It is revealed that the argument was about the best place for a new children’s playground being near the Jellyfish Castle – they thought that they disagreed with each other when they were actually in agreement all along.

In Size Matters, the Starfish King invented a special paint that renders Salacian buildings invisible to Drylanders (by presumably reflecting or refracting their lights), but he runs out of the special sand that makes the paint work just as the school needs to be repainted. Eventually, the girls, with the help of Camarina and the shrimps, manage to find the special sand and help the other princes and princesses repaint the school. The paint proves effective when a Drylander vessel shines its light over it.

In The Ester Breakout, he grounds Ester after he hears that she has been going to a Drylander lighthouse. After school on the third day, when Polvina and Tubarina attempt to visit Ester, the Starfish King discovers that she had left the palace the night before (having somehow not checked on her all this time). Heading to the lighthouse where Ester frequents, they discover her plugging a hole in a Dryland carriage that was leaking black goop and rescue her before the Drylanders come to fix the hole.
