The Mimic Octopus is an octopus that can change its shape to look like other creatures, such as a sea snake, a solefish or a lionfish.
Character history[]
In The Diary, the Mimic Octopus was found taking red items from the princesses in the library, such as Polvina's diary, Isa's schoolbag and Lia's pencils, to put around his home in the basement. He is later found by Polvina and after he is introduced to her friends, promises her that he will not take anything again. This encounter inspires Polvina to use him as the subject of her school project.
In The Missing Princess, the Mimic Octopus is enlisted by Polvina as she, Ester and Tubarina attempt to find Lia, who has run away from home. After disguising himself as a lionfish and following two others to a cave, he goes back to tell the girls and take them back there. Later on, when a swarm of lionfish trap the girls in another cave after Ester takes Lia's food, the Mimic Octopus manages to sneak away before getting Lia for help.
In the books[]
The Mimic Octopus made an appearance in Mystery at the Sea School, which is an adaptation of The Diary. In the story, the Mimic Octopus attempted to steal pages of paper to build a nest for his brood. Over two days, he stole Maurico and Tubarina's homework before he was discovered by Polvina the day after while attempting to steal Tata's homework. After apologising to the class, the mimic octopus helped the whole class do their homework.
The Mimic Octopus also had the ability to change into a moray eel, but this was changed to a sea snake in the translation.
